New Samsung D900 is the latest model in Samsung’s Ultra-series. D900 also named 12.9 which corresponds to the thickness in millimeters. Unfortunately, the camera is disappointing although the autofocus and 3.1 Megapixels resolution.
Samsung’s Ultra-series marks the end of the plastic period that the manufacturer has gone through. It is a good thing. The new Ultra series is much sweeter than the earlier models. I have already tested the D820 who was only 6.9 millimeters thick. In this context seems 12.9 mm as much-but it’s still very thin compared to most phones. I put the D900 next to Sony Ericsson W850, and found that it required two D900 to reach up to the edge of the W850.
Great sliding feature
D900 is a slider phone, and the bit is the home on in Korea. European producers could well pick up a few things here. Slider mechanism works much better than any European model I tested. The design is sober black without plastic blank. The buttons are large and great, and the screen is closest to the giant. The slight edge from the D500 is also found in the D900, and the camera is hidden when the phone is folded. It was also on the D500, but not on the D600. The menu system is the new type which we have previously praised. The phone now understand that it should be capitalized after point. However, it is disturbing that you can not change a Word to another if you accidentally choose the wrong words. “then you have to delete the word and start from scratch.
D900 is not a 3 g handset, but will later this year in a 3 g HSDPA variant. The current model, by contrast, supports EDGE, which can be useful for Telia customers. Telia offers the EDGE, which crudely said is a kind of light version without 3 g video telephony. I had a D900 with me on a trip to New York and had no trouble finding coverage for EDGE. As an aside, one can mention that D900 is quadband. This means that it supports all GSM frequencies used. The difference between EDGE and GPRS are tangible as well as 3 g and GPRS and it was no problem to use it abroad.
Lots of lull-lull
D900 begging for attention as soon as you take it out. It’s stylish and delicious. The model has a locking feature that allows that if the phone is stolen, it automatically sends a text message to a pre-selected number if a new SIM card is inserted. In addition, the automatic time zone feature. When the phone finds a foreign network read it by the local time, set the clock, and also offers a new wallpaper on the screen based on the place in the world they are. The background image can also be modified based on the clock. In the evening, the sky is dark in the picture, and a text message will then start a firework display across the screen. Pure lull-lull, but it works-it is those features I think helps to sell phones. In addition to this, the model has the latest Bluetooth technology. This means you can use a wireless headset to your phone, and get the music streamed in stereo, wirelessly to your ears. D900 also supports Picbridge, a standard to print pictures directly from your phone.
Speaking of pictures have a D900 3.1 megapixel camera with autofocus and macro. It sounds good on paper, but unfortunately the image quality is still a disappointment when compared with several other 3 megapixel cameras we’ve tested. Images are simply not good enough. At the same time, it feels like there is something strange with the colour rendition. The camera has auto focus is all very well, but unfortunately you can not like other models keep the shutter release button on the bottom half, then find the focus and recompose the picture. The camera puts the focus on what is in the middle of the picture, that’s just the way it is. It’s a shame, the camera should be better and it is a quite obvious function to keep the release button in the lower half. The built-in photo light manages not to light up so much more than the ground when you are looking for the keys that you lost in the dark. No doubt is there a limit to how thin a phone may be at the same time there should be space for a camera with autofocus. You have to compromise somewhere, and that’s probably why those features don’t quite measure up.
In return, the built-in MP3 player is excellent, and it is possible to let the music play in the background while engaged in other things-a trait we previously asked for.
