“Force Touch Will Be a Future Base of New Interactions”

We have talked a lot about What will be the key to the successful development of the Apple Watch: applications that the developers are releasing in its official app store. And we have already seen some interesting examples: CityMapper and Wunderlist, Feedly and LINE, Volkswagen…

It’s time to see one of these applications, which has prepared Booking.com for the Apple Watch. But this time we have been able to go further and speak directly with your designer, Stuart Frisby. Stuart is which has been commissioned to create the interface for Booking on the watch of Apple, so no one better than him to know details of the challenge represented by creating a program that will fit on our wrist.

Applesfera: We have heard about how some companies have polished their applications from the Apple Watch directly in the Apple offices. Have you participated in that? Have you helped in something?

Stuart: Yes! Apple is a great contributor with whom we have also recently worked with the iOS version of Booking. In the same way, they have worked with us to terminate the application of the Apple Watch. As a company focused on finding values added to our areas of expertise and also to find new opportunities for growth, we want to encourage collaborations with long lasting to help us do just that.

Applesfera: Apple wants to interaction with Apple Watch is fleeting, just seconds. Have you adjusted to this? How long can you take to seek and confirm a reservation with Booking from the watch?

Stuart: The simple design and the role they have in Apple Watch makes this a companion, simplifying the user experience to one level still greater than the iPhone. Everything is mass in “microinteracciones”, so easy as to time, and should act as the solution to the avalanche of excessive notifications. All that has been considered when designing Booking at Apple Watch.

On the other hand, Booking in Apple Watch focuses on managing the key aspects of the reserve as check-in and check-out, making it easier for the user by using the function “glances” of the clock. Users can also save the location of a room and easily find the way to get up to there thanks to GPS navigation. Up to room number can be saved if they do not want to forget it.

“Everything is based on microinteracciones that should solve the excessive flood of notifications”

What us enthusiasm of Apple Watch is that we can help our customers in a very light way, whenever you need us. Are those small points where you can frustrate you that interest us: know with a glance at the clock when you can do check-in, or how long you have before making the check-out, find the path back to the hotel, remember your room number… believe that they are the kind of perfect for Apple Watch interactions, and we are excited that finally there is a platform appropriate for solving just such problems.

Applesfera: Are the differences (advantages and disadvantages) between book a stay by Booking from the iPhone and Apple Watch? In which cases is it better to use the iPhone?

Stuart: Here we must bear in mind that decisions that Apple has done with the SDK of Apple Watch come to understand that the clock is something much more personal than a phone. You have to see this accessory as a device of environmental computing, something that gives us comfort and which does not require our attention continuously. That is the reason why Apple put some guidelines and barriers when designing applications that respect the attention of users.

We have had much in mind that with our application for the Apple Watch, and we’re not limited with what you can do on the platform. Booking at the Watch simplifies and supports the tasks of a spontaneous traveller before, during and after their stay. Allows them to get the same working less. There are some things about Booking that work exclusively on the Apple Watch, as:

  • Book a room only with one Touch click Force.
  • See a countdown to make check-out.
  • Keep the number of room.
  • GPS navigation to return to the hotel.
  • Notifications of rooms available anywhere near our position.

Applesfera: Summarizing what you have said, can what you really push a user to use Booking in Apple Watch and not on the iPhone?

Stuart: As a simple Force Touch Click to book, or check that booking the flight details. We are the first booking application that allows you to do that.

Applesfera: You’ve spent the same effort with the smartwatch of competition? What do you think of Android Wear or the Microsoft Band?

Stuart: We have always wanted to go to where our users want to go, doing more work where we have more audience. We always consider other ways to make more comfortable our reservations regardless of the device or screen to use.

Android Wear is a very interesting platform for us, and we have app for Android with a good community of users. In the future we will have other applications but we will use much of the Apple Watch as an opportunity to see where we can go with those “super-personales” devices.

Applesfera: What do you think about the initial shortage of units of the Watch? Do you think that Apple was prepared enough or has it been wrong to predict the initial demand?

Stuart: Do not value or we judge what do other companies… but anyway we know that Apple has enough inventory to meet all the demand.

“We believe that the Force Touch Click is a very interesting extension to put up what you have contributed iPhone gestures for years”

Applesfera: As a company who has opted for the Apple Watch, how do you see the future of this clock? Would personally, you buy you one right now?

Stuart: Very interested in us see what they do with the Watch companies, as the dawn of a new era in the design of interactions with the user, one that is going to be a real challenge in the way that you help people to solve their problems. We believe that the Force Touch Click is a very interesting extension to put up what you have contributed iPhone gestures for years.

I think that what interested most is how natural is that gesture, the intuitive who is using it. Some time ago we have machines that react to different levels of pressure, but few times we have felt that they are so successful at Apple Watch. Extend that to laptops to entrench this interaction as a future base, as designers welcome these new ways of interacting with our applications.search more at APARENTINGBLOG
